Financial Impact of the Rivers Casino on Pittsburgh

Abstract

Casinos were introduced to the Pittsburgh region because of the historical positive impact on the state economies. Gambling, though common-place, was illegal in Pennsylvania until 1972 when the first lottery was enacted. The success of the lottery lead to increased consideration for expanding gambling in the state, leading Pittsburgh receiving a Category 2 License for a Stand-Alone Casino. The financial impact of a casino operation in the Pittsburgh region, is research and evaluated.
