A large body of research has focused on the impact of internal and external variables on instructional quality and key metrics related to classroom performance, especially since the COVID-19 pandemic. Recently, findings have indicated significant impact on student performance in both face-to-face and online course modalities. This work addresses a gap in the most recent work by assessing how the discipline or subject matter being taught influences these outcomes in online course delivery. Results show that the discipline a course is housed in has a significant impact on key student performance metrics. Results and future research are discussed.
